Our Practices

Good Land Management

Hi, I’m Jed, and at Struck Lone Tree Acres, sustainability isn’t a trend; it’s simply how we believe farming should be done.

We focus on working with the land rather than against it. One of the ways we do this is by building hügelkultur beds (a German‑derived practice), which use natural materials like wood and organic matter to create healthy, moisture‑retaining planting areas. These beds help improve soil health over time, reduce the need for outside inputs, and support the crops we grow for our family and for our chickens.

We also choose not to use man‑made or store‑bought fertilizers, including fertilizer sprays. Instead, we return nutrients to the soil naturally by using chicken manure as fertilizer, closing the loop between our animals and the land. This approach supports healthier soil, stronger plants, and a more sustainable farm ecosystem.

Good land management means thinking long‑term. Every decision we make, from pasture use to fertilization, is guided by the goal of leaving the land better than we found it for our children and future generations.
